Congratulations FRED on a successful campaign

Another 30+ volunteers joined FRED on the beach this morning, braving the rain to bring attention to the masonry buried by Birse on completion of the Coastal Defences.

On the 15th 16th and 17th of July the Environment Agency are returning to Redcar and bringing a contractor with them to clear away the building debris on the beach in Zetland and Coatham.

FRED (Friends of Redcar) conducted today's special rubble shuffle this morning alongside council staff, Friends of Locke Park, Friends of Borough Park and charity workers from Lifeline to celebrate their victory.

Carl Quartermain FRED Chairman said, "I'm always blown away by the efforts made by our volunteers. They come out month after month to expose this problem. Without their support we would have found it difficult to achieve what we have."

"Between us we have already cleared around 70 tonnes of rubble and we're only scratching the surface. We are now very much looking forward to seeing the diggers on the beach from Tuesday and will be down here watching with keen interest."

FRED will continue working the beach and will concentrate their effort to clean up the Coatham Dunes and South Gare and to bring more events to Redcar.

"Our group is determined to raise the issue of littering. The more time the council spend cleaning up the less time they have concentrating on other issues. I always feel it directly affects our council tax too.

"There is a real anti social element that is growing. Take photos on your phone but ALWAYS avoid interacting with anyone who behaves so recklessly. If you see Anti social behaviour of any kind please call 101 and ask for support from our police service. I have personally used this service and have seen units arrive in 3 mins."

FRED are holding a Community Volunteers Open Day at the Redcar Rugby Club on the 10th August 12-4pm to thank all voluntary groups and their workers in and around Redcar. If you would like more details please contact friendsofredcar@gmail.com
